INTERVIEW: The Vamps On The Making Of 'All Night' | Behind The Song

Behind The Song is a reoccurring feature, where we take an in-depth look at a track and its backstory because, let's be real, there's nothing like getting the scoop about a record directly from the artists themselves.

It's a good time to be a fan of The Vamps. Not only is the British four-piece on the verge of hitting the road once again for an international tour. But the teen sensation is just weeks away from the release of the Night Edition from their two-part new album, Night & Day. As part one of the album campaign, Brad Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans are treating their loyal fanbase to a special rollout, where the quartet will release the 10-song set on July 14, with the follow-up Day Edition dropping later this year.

When The Vamps, or at least 3/4 of them, stopped by iHeartRadio HQ, we spoke about the upcoming release, but also went deep into the making of "All Night," the set's sensational collaboration with Matoma, which saw the band climb back onto the charts. Take a look below!

Artist: The Vamps

Title: "All Night"

Producers: Matoma, DJ Frank E, Danny Majic

Release Date: October 14, 2016

Album: Night & Day (Night Edition)

Writers: Justin Franks, John Mitchell, Daniel Majic, Connor Ball, James McVey, Brad Simpson, Tristan Evans

Beginning Stage Of "All Night" With DJ Frank E:

"There was a song that we wrote about a year ago that we sent through to him called 'Stay.' We just wanted him to put his twist on it because we think he's an amazing DJ and an amazing producer. We sent it through and he really liked the track. We went over to LA to work with him and finish off the song. We actually left the session having not heard the chorus for 'All Night' and then he e-mailed me about an hour after we left and said 'I forgot to play you this. What do you think of it?' I played it for the boys in the car, and we were like, 'Yeah, it's okay.' It took us a couple of days to be like 'This could be really, really cool.' We flew back to LA, worked on the track with him, and then that's pretty much how you hear it." - Bradley

Working With Matoma On The Final Product:

"I think when you collaborate, you want to use the right amount of influence from both parties. Obviously, we felt we had a bit more license to go into the  EDM dance world because Matoma, but we also wanted to stay true to us as musicians and as a fan. He included the right amount of guitars that felt natural and didn't intrude on the track. I think we're very happy with how it sounds." - Bradley

Separating Songs On The Night/Day Collection:

"I think a lot of [the album's seperation] was determined by lyrical content more so than necessarily this sonics of the songs. I think the Night album has got a bit more ... I don't want to say sexy, but there's a song called, 'Same to You,' and they're a bit more moody and the Day ones are bit more uplifting. We're still in the process of choosing the Day songs. We haven't confirmed that track list yet, so I guess we'll wait and see." - Bradley

Conceptualizing The Day/Night Album Package:

"We did a bundle thing where there's four different, individual albums. We write so many songs when we make albums, and all artists do. For us, we wanted to give fans the opportunity to get to know each member's musical tastes slightly better. Obviously, when we all come together, that's what the band is, but on our individual albums, there's eight songs that remain the same, and there's two that are personal to each member. Mine, for example, I've got a song with one of the Rascal Flatts guys on my album, and then Tristan has got a collaboration with a guy back home in the UK." - James

Plans For 2017:

"We're in the middle of the world tour. We started in UK and we did like an arena tour, and Europe with Little Mix and then we're going to do South American and the rest of the world. We really wanted to, just for the album, do like a showcase where it's not full band, it's not a full show, but it's like an acoustic strip back. Then we explain how the songs came about in smaller venues, which is really very cool and intimate. We're excited for that." - Tristan

"We [also plan to] play the Night album in its entirety, like the first off the album, and that's something we've never done before. It should be really cool to play it as it is." - Bradley
