From Dark Horizons:
An attempt at fun went wrong on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night as actor Joaquin Phoenix, on the show to promote the release of “Joker,” was ambushed with an ‘exclusive outtake’ that left him visibly upset.
Kimmel setup the clip saying he had been given some outtakes from director Todd Phillips, the selected clip showing Phoenix attempting to get into character while berating the Cinematographer for constantly whispering during takes, to the point where the actor stormed off the set.
Phoenix was visibly shaken from the clip, replying to the uneasy laughs of the crowd:
“Sometimes movies get intense. You have a lot of people in a small space and you’re trying to find something. That was supposed to be private, I’m a little embarrassed by that. I’m sorry you guys had to see that. I should probably publicly apologize to Larry. The thing is though, I am sorry, but he did whisper constantly while we’re trying to work, and sometimes it’s really hard to find the emotion that you’re after, so it was wrong of me and I’m sorry, but he shouldn’t have done it.”
"Joker" opens this Friday.
