Check your lettuce before you make that Thanksgiving salad. The CDC reports that no deaths have been confirmed, but the contaminated lettuce that has been sold at many outlets can cause kidney failure.
The lettuce in question is ROMAINE lettuce from the Salinas, CA area, and is contaminated with E. Coli. Locations including Target, Walmart, Aldi and others have all pulled products from shelves. At least 40 E.Coli cases have been reported, but no deaths. From the CDC:
"If romaine lettuce does not have labeling information for its growing area or the source cannot be confirmed, consumers should not eat or use the romaine. Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell romaine lettuce if they cannot confirm it is from outside Salinas."
