The Denver Trolley Gets A Makeover After A Year Without Riders

The Denver Trolley has been closed since Labor Day 2019. In March 2020, it was announced that they would be canceling that year's season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, in 2021, the trolley is hoping to get back on the tracks in the fall.

In a recent feature with the Denverite, it was revealed that the Denver Trolley is undergoing big upgrades.

During pre-pandemic times, the trolley ran most of the year, taking excited fans to Bronco games, families on tours of Confluence Park. They also offered free rides to kids once a month to the Children's Museum.

The repair work will be to ensure that the trolley is in tiptop shape when it's allowed to do all of those things again.

"We decided to take on some of these maintenance upgrade projects,” Ethan Yazzie-Mintz, Denver Tramway Heritage Society's board chair, told the Denverite. “We believe it will be in great shape.”

On April 22, a few volunteers gathered at Confluence Park to fix up the old trolley, like replacing rotten floorboards.

Yazzie-Mintz and another volunteer, Pete West, said they hope the renovations will be done by the end of the summer.

They are concerned about finding volunteers when the time comes, as many of them fit the "high risk" description for the virus.
